March 17th falls on a school day this year, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get lucky with some golden plans. I asked 21 different students what they are up to on this green spirited holiday, and the range of ideas aren’t disappointing to say the least.
1. “Celebrate at an authentic Irish pub with an Irish Wake!” –Michael Peberdy, junior, Florida State University
2. “Go to a St. Patty’s day themed parade! I am going to the nighttime one in Ybor City. You’ll see me ridiculously decked out in all green.”-Mariah Martin, sophomore
3. “I am going to work and then sit at home like every other day.” –Isabelle Arrell, sophomore, Florida Atlantic University
4. “I was thinking this St. Patty’s Day I was going to go to an actual Irish bar and drink green beer and feast on Irish food and pretend I’m Irish for a day.” –Lina Wiley, sophomore, University of Central Florida
5. “Literally nothing, I don’t even know when it is.” –Cassidy Fulton, sophomore, University of South Florida
6. “I wake up and go to Dunkin’ Donuts because on St. Patty’s Day they sell those green bagels and those things are popping. They dye all their bagels with green food coloring and I don’t know, I think it makes it taste better.” –Maddie Loux, sophomore, Brookdale Community College
7. “My St. Patty’s Day usually consists of hanging out with a group of my closest friends at someone’s pool just drinking and cooking out! I try to avoid the bars because people tend to get a little to crazy for my liking.” –Lauren Wynne, junior, Florida State University
8. “Drunkenly going to my classes in between hanging out at Pots bar and The Strip all day.” –Kyle Willis, sophomore, Florida State University
9. “I’m probably going to watch The Luck of the Irish on Disney Channel when I wake up in the morning because I’m a kid at heart. Then in the evening, go out to the annual St. Patty’s Day Block Party at Knights Library and drink a lot of green beer.” –Kayleigh Wiehaus, sophomore, University of Central Florida
10. “Ideally my St. Patrick’s Day would be me drinking all day and night whilst singing T-Pain lyrics to the tune of Irish drinking songs, while arm in arm with my best friends.” –Tarryn Meyers, sophomore, Florida State University
11. “My ideal plan for St. Patty’s Day is to finally find that leprechaun at the end of the rainbow and use his pot of gold to buy beer for me and my friends.” –Tommy Smith, sophomore, Hillsborough Community College
12. “I would say my ideal St. Patty’s Day would have to include watching reruns of Leprechaun and eating mass amounts of crackers and port wine cheese.” –Kelci Porter, sophomore, Hillsborough Community College
13. “St. Patty’s Day is a monumental annual event in which the entire city of Tallahassee is transformed into a warzone, where only the green and the intoxicated survive. For me, pacing is key on a day where drinking normally starts at dawn and ends at midnight.” –Jason Rocha, sophomore, Florida State University
14. “Attend any one of the St. Patty’s Day parades either in Boston, Chicago, Savannah, or Key West. Oh and this year I really want to find a leprechaun.”-Mariah Greene, sophomore, University of Central Florida
15. “Well I go to the University of Dayton so it is the biggest party of the year. David Letterman was quoted saying, ‘there are 4 places you want to be on St. Patrick’s Day: Dublin, Chicago, New York and the University of Dayton.’ We are famous for our St. Patrick’s Day celebration. We start the day at 3 a.m. with Bailey’s and coffee. 4 a.m. is kegs and eggs and the rest of the day we party in the streets of the student neighborhood—dancing and cheering to Irish music and drinking Guinness beer all day.” –Katelyn Dornbach, junior, University of Dayton
16. “I’d like to be at a pub in Ireland but I’ll settle for Pots…or my couch with Netflix.” –Caitlin Warner, sophomore, Florida State University
17. “Plans for St. Patty’s Day…glutes, quads and hamstrings.” –Kelsey Smith, sophomore, Iowa Lakes Community College
18. “I would want it to be a rainy day so I can walk my dog with my boyfriend around the lake and then watch cheesy movies like Leap Year with Amy Adams.” –Brianna Shilling, freshman, University of Florida
19. “I would like to be drinking, but at a cool Irish pub in a small town in Ireland with my best friends, and of course try to pretend we are Irish with crazy bad accents.” —Taylor Nicholson, sophomore, Stetson University
