Being the child at heart that I am, I never let a Turkey Day pass me by without watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. It wasn’t before this year, however, that I realized Charlie and the gang (Snoopy included) were partaking in a true collegiate Thanksgiving.
For those of you who haven’t seen this holiday special here is a quick synopsis: Charlie Brown gets himself in a pickle when he accidently invites too many friends to his grandmother’s Thanksgiving dinner. Being the stand-up guy that he is, he decides to host his own dinner to avoid uninviting his closest pals. With a little help from the Peanut gang, he manages to cook an untraditional dinner with the people that matter most. Throw in a few historical lines about the true meaning of Thanksgiving and we have A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.
Take a look for yourself at these quotes from the 1973 holiday classic to see that these pint-sized characters could really be living your college life.
“It seems Thanksgiving Day is upon us”- Charlie Brown
“I haven’t even finished eating all of my Halloween candy”- Sally Brown
If seems like just yesterday we were putting away our scanty costumes and creating a Halloween ’13 Facebook album. Now if only it were acceptable to dress up like a sexy pilgrim…
“I was just checking the mailbox”- Charlie Brown
“What do you expect, a turkey card”- Sally Brown
If your parents are anything like mine, they will send a care package for just about anything. Yes, Thanksgiving included. So for me, I would not be surprised to see a turkey card in my mailbox. I just hope it’s not the one that gobbles when I open it.
“I think I’m losing control of the whole world.” – Charlie Brown
As we munch on turkey, we approach finals. As a matter of fact, they are in a week (eek). So thank you Chuck Brown for letting me know I’m not alone and let the stress commence.
“I can’t cook a Thanksgiving dinner. All I can make is cold cereal and maybe toast.”- Charlie Brown
“That’s right. I’ve seen you make toast. You can’t butter it, but maybe we can help you.”- Linus van Pelt
Ramen, mac and Cheese and popcorn. Let’s face it; if you can pop it in the microwave, a college student will eat it. One thing is for sure, our friends will be there when the microwave sets off the fire alarm or they want to sneak their hands in you Orville Redenbacher’s. It seems as if we all have a Linus or two in our lives.
We all know Snoopy’s actions speak a lot louder than his words, or in his case, his lack of words. Really using his resources, he sets up a Ping-Pong table as a makeshift dinner table. I liken this to turning a beer pong table in to a place to rest our 3AM delivered pizzas.
“What are we going to wear to this big Thanksgiving party, sir? What time do we go?" – Marcie
Ladies, this one is for you. We all know just how long it takes for a night out. What will we do with our hair? Are these heels to high? Does this lipstick match my outfit? It a true struggle; one men just don’t understand.
“I invited a few friends over and they are still here” – Charlie Brown
The dilemma of overstaying one’s welcome. While you initially love the company, you cannot wait for your guest to get out. Whether it be your roommates or a group you met up with a party, no one ever likes the kid who wont leave. Oh, we also hate the kid who eats all of your food, but that’s a different story.
