So, you’re halfway through your last undergraduate fall semester. Congratulations. The excitement of a new semester has finally worn off and you’re stuck trying to skate by on as little work as possible until it’s time to receive that diploma.
Unfortunately, that day is further off than you think. It’s important to stay focused in the home stretch. You don’t want one easily avoidable slip-up to keep you from tossing your cap in the air. Here are some important tips for avoiding your second round of Senioritis:
Always go to class—Getting into the habit of skipping is detrimental. Even though your professor says you can have three unexcused absences, that isn’t an invitation to take them. Though you may have ways to get all of the notes or lectures, making yourself get up and go will motivate you to stay on top of your homework.
Sleep—Consistently getting only five or six hours of sleep isn’t healthy. You’re more likely to get sick and be less focused when you’re under slept. Sleeping at least 8 hours a night will make you feel refreshed in the morning and ready to face the day.
Reward yourself—Embarrassing as it may be, I always tell myself if I can get all of my homework done by a certain time, I can watch an episode of Glee (I’m a newly converted Gleek). This works wonders because I still haven’t found out if Quinn is going to keep her baby and I need to know.
Plan ahead—If you know there’s an awesome party happening next Saturday and you plan to spend all of next Sunday nursing a headache in bed, do your homework early. Being able to go to sleep on a Sunday night without having to worry about finishing your paper is what dreams are made of.
Make sure you make time to enjoy your last year in college. Otherwise, you may stress yourself out even more.
Find time for fun—You may think that being a senior is all work and no play, but that doesn’t have to be the case.
