The college experience often entails drinking, partying and intimate interactions. And what used to be seen as a mate-seeking ritual has shifted to hooking up: sexual encounters with no strings attached. It seems that some students are so preoccupied with classes, internships and a social life that they don’t have time for a relationship. Instead, students seek multiple stimulating sexual experiences to help strip away their stress. Casual sex has even replaced the dating scene on some college campuses, but students at some universities seem to be more DTF than others. Researching the party scenes, hookup culture, sexual health resources and even streaking incidents, we put together a list of colleges where students spend less time taking notes and more time under the sheets.
1) University of Texas at Austin
Texas, the state with the long horns..need we say more? Named on nearly every list of party schools in the nation, the 50,000+ students at UT Austin know how to party—and get it on. While this may be synonymous with a fun, wild college experience for students, it’s a parent’s worst nightmare.
2) Arizona State University
These Sun Devils certainly live up to their name. With a warm desert climate and vibrant nightlife, students have the tendency to shed clothing and crank up the heat. In fact, the campus is celebrated for having a very attractive female population, including Courtney Simpson who was a former ASU cheerleader turned porn star. But she isn’t the only one involved in the adult movie industry. These naughty Sun Devils don’t miss a beat when it comes to sex and partying. “Everyone that goes to this school has a certain sexiness to them,” said senior Leah Newcomb. “If you combine that with alcohol and the hot weather, it’s easy to see why it can be hard for students to keep their clothes on. There are endless opportunities to get laid here.”
3) University of California, Santa Barbara
California dreaming is the constant reality for students at this university along the Pacific Coast, and sex on the beach isn’t just a popular drink here. UCSB is the country’s only campus with its own beach, and the students definitely take advantage of it. Del Playa Drive in the college town of Isla Vista is party central and most students partake in the drunken debauchery, which often leads to hookups and one night stands.Since students seem to be getting laid all the time, it should come as no surprise that UCSB is ranked number 11 on Princeton’s Happiest Students List. In fact, some say the students are so sexually active that they sleep around too much, which has led to an STI stereotype. But this myth is not stopping students from getting it on. “Dating at UCSB is nonexistent unless you consider it f—ing on the first night,” said senior Katie Fry. “Most students want to just hit it and quit it.” No wonder its nickname is the University of Casual Sex and Beer.
4) Florida State University
FSU students are trying to score more than just good grades. The warm weather provides ample opportunity to show some skin, and both male and female students aren’t afraid to show it. Students can attend the bikini and hard body contests sponsored by some of the drinking establishments in town, or admire other students basking in the sun on campus. The university is also known for its vibrant nightlife, landing it on various party school lists, and the students seem to be keeping it that way. The “Strip” on Tennessee Street and the myriad bars and clubs are great for drunkstudents looking for one-night stands and fooling around. When the sun goes down, it seems FSU students take Southern hospitality to a whole other level.
5) University of Florida
There’s something about Florida. The young people can’t seem to keep it in their pants, but at least the men are wrapping their willies. The university was ranked 8th overall in Trojan’s Sexual Health Report, which was probably facilitated by the school’s sex education class and array of available contraceptives. The university also makes sure its faculty and staff are having an active sex life. UF employees now have to pledge that they’re having sex with their domestic partners before qualifying for benefits under a new health care plan at the university. They seem to be serving as role models for the students, who indulge in more than just alcohol after a big football game. “Here the students are very open to talking about sex,” said junior Hannah Becker. “Gainesville is a college town, so most of the things like clubs and bars are all aimed at people our age, and there’s easy ways for people to meet…and have sex.” With the amount of nooky going on, there’s no need to wonder why Amazon.com ranked Gainesville the 9th most romantic city. Two UF students were even caught doing the deed at the courthouse last year. Naughty naughty.
6) Penn State University
At Penn State, getting it on is a climatic part of the college experience. An active Greek scene, talented football and basketball teams, attractive people and lots of liquor seem to stir up the libido of the students. The university is no stranger to top party schools lists, and students seem to hookup just as much as they drink. According to Penn State student Vaughn Lawrence, the dating scene is seemingly nonexistent, and there is a heavy favoring for hooking up over relationships. “The students do not believe that having sex is something special, but instead is a fun recreational activity,” he said. “Finding someone who values sex enough to wait and find a compatible partner is one of the most difficult things you could do at this school.” Students should be screaming “We are…getting laid!”
7) University of Wisconsin-Madison
The students at this school sure know how to fog up the windows on a cold night. UW has a party school reputation, most notably for the Mifflin Street Block Party and the State Street Halloween Party. MTV even had a brief reality series called College Life about the lives of eight UW-Madison freshmen. But partying too hard can come at a price: three students were fined $86,000 for a kegger that got out of hand. This party atmosphere definitely provides many opportunities for students to get lucky: “We Wisconsin kids are a special breed and trust me—everyone else is jealous,” said junior Patrick Cleary*. “Nearly everyone is looking for at least a hookup, and for the amount we party here, it’s a piece of cake for most people to get lucky on the weekends.”
8) University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
With over 40,000 students, it’s no surprise that Michigan is one of the most sexually active schools in the country. The university’s location, in picturesque Ann Arbor, is among the top cities where people get it on the most. It is also on Amazon.com’s list of most romantic cities based on data of sexual wellness products, romance novels and relationship books. Even better, the school scored high on Trojan’s Sexual Health Report Card, which measured the sexual education of its students and the availability of contraception on campus. It’s good to know that the students here diligently follow the saying, “sex is cleaner with a packaged wiener.”
9) Vassar College
This prestigious liberal arts school might be in the middle of nowhere, but it just means the students have sex more. Vassar used to be an all-women’s college back in the day, but with the introduction of men into the student population, times are changing. Now boasting a 2:3 male to female ratio, the students find it easy to have sex—especially the men since they are in high demand. This intense hookup environment is complemented with conversation topics revolving around sex, and the coed bathrooms make it even easier for students to do the dirty in the shower. There is even an official school publication called Squirm, which is a submissions-based magazine exploring sexuality that includes nudity and non-mainstream attitudes about sex.
10) Rutgers University
Rutgers students have learned to strip away their stress in the many pleasures of the flesh. The university is even starting to make it easier for its students to hookup by implementing co-ed dorm rooms.
