For as long as there have been athletes, there have been WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends) to support them. There have been iconic WAGs (Marilyn Monroe), crazy WAGs (Jackie Christie) and athlete WAGs (like Jennie Finch). Here is my list of the top 10 WAGs in sports today:
10. Kendra Wilkinson (Hank Baskett)
This is a classic case of the WAG being more famous than the athlete. Kendra, of Playboy fame, traded in her octogenarian boyfriend for a journeyman receiver who we can only really connect to the Eagles. Kendra is famous (albeit for the wrong reasons) and hot, so she had to make this list.
9. Shakira (Gerard Pique)
Her boyfriend is one of the best soccer defenders in the world and her hips don’t lie (you knew that one was coming). Shakira is without a doubt one of the hottest people on this planet, and she is actually talented unlike, I don’t know, Kendra.
8. Kate Upton (Mark Sanchez)
Our first of three Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover models, Upton is the most recent to the WAG game with her relationship with Jets backup QB Mark Sanchez – that’s right, I said backup. She even knows how to Dougie.
7. Adriana Lima (Marko Jaric)
I could spend this time talking about how gorgeous Adriana Lima is, or I can just try to figure out how the hell Marko Jaric managed to score her. I’m sure he’s a great guy, but come on, Adriana, you can do better! Regardless, she is a must-have on this countdown.
6. Irina Shayk (Cristiano Ronaldo)
Shayk, the Russian model, is the second SI WAG on the list. She has been dateing serial WAG-er Cristiano Ronaldo for nearly two years now, and sure, he happens to be somewhat good at soccer.
5. Carrie Underwood (Mike Fisher)
A personal favorite of mine, Carrie Underwood is not only smokin’, the girl can sing with the best. The American Idol winner is married to Nashville Predators Center Mike Fisher, who I frankly know nothing about.
4. Abbey Clancy (Peter Crouch)
I really don’t know why Clancy is famous, but she sure is hot. She is married to soccer giant (literally, he’s 6-foot-7) Peter Crouch, who plays for Liverpool. She was featured in a WAGs section in SI’s Swimsuit issue that featured wives and girlfriends in body paint. Take a look for yourself.
3. Victoria Beckham (David Beckham)
In their years together, Posh and Becks have taken the idea of a “power couple” to a whole new level. They have built a Beckham empire all over the world. She is, perhaps, the most recognizable WAG of all time, and one of the hottest, too.
2. Brooklyn Decker (Andy Roddick)
The last cover model on this list, Brooklyn Decker is, how do I say this, HOT. She wouldn’t even have to be married to Roddick – I’d still find a way to sneak her into this countdown. Decker recently got into acting alongside Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Just Go With It. I knew it wasn’t going to be good, but I saw it anyway.
1. Gisele Bundchen (Tom Brady)
When people just call you by your first name, you know you have made it in life. Gisele certainly has. She is the perfect combination of beautiful, talented and smart with whom she married. I am not a fan of Tom Brady on the football field, but he is no Marko Jaric in the looks department. Gisele is the total package, so she is the natural No. 1 on this list.
