Some students come to college as a rager rookie. Some could start day one as a party professor. Either way, you won’t be able to completely avoid the party scene on most college campuses.

Costume parties in college happen every weekend, not just on Halloween. That means stocking your closet with basics that’ll turn you into a zombie for an apocalypse-themed party or a Greek god for a toga party.

Parties also let you test the college dating waters. Before you dive in headfirst, gather your single squad and prepare a strategy to lock eyes from across the room. Most importantly, remember the guy you’re trying to talk to is just a guy. Keep your chin up and YOLO.

If you turn 21 in college, your friends will expect you to throw down, turn up or at least something in between. Nail down the celebration that makes you happy—whether boozy or non-boozy. Just keep tally of your drink count as the night goes on to avoid a night in the ER.

You should know that you don’t need to partake in any parties that don’t feel right. You should also know how to responsibly partake if you do want to attend a party.

From the pregame to the postgame, College Magazine guides will make sure to get you through the night and to your 8 a.m. the next day.
