Drunk eatingâ¦weâre all guilty of it, though itâs a tough thing to accept. After a night out at the bars, fraternity houses or just with friends in your dorm it is so difficult to resist a quick trip to the vending machine or local restaurant to satisfy your cravings.
Thereâs no real scientific reason as to why food tastes so much better when youâre drunk, but it usually leads to feeling guilty the next morning for eating pizza or chips that you know will wreck your waistline.
However, noshing after hours can be avoided. Itâs tough but doable. All you have to do is cut back on the amount of alcohol you consume or choose healthier options that will still satisfy your cravings.
There has never been a person who enjoys waking up to the raging headache, extreme thirst and overall disorientation that constitutes a classic hangover, so drinking less is definitely a viable option to reduce drunk-eating. Less alcohol means that you are consuming less âalcohol caloriesâ which arenât recognized by the body and is why you may not feel full from them, according to Menâs Health. This may seem like a daunting task for most college students who enjoy funneling beers and taking shots, but just taking a moment to remember how you may feel the next morning might be enough for you to tone down the indulging.
Secondly, it might seem like it would be so easy to just order a pizza or grab a snack from the vending machine to curb your insane cravings after late nights, but adding that many calories and fat on top of the heavy amount of alcohol you have already consumed can be dangerous to your waistline.
If you need something sweet, have a few pieces of dark chocolate (not the whole bar!) to placate your sweet tooth, and keep small bags of pretzels aroundâemphasis on smallâfor your salty cravings. Your body doesnât really need the food youâre craving and the small snack can pacify your yearning for the whole pizza pie you think you really want.
Snacking during the light of day is healthy and necessary, but throwing back a huge bag of Ruffles after youâve had your weekend beer binge is not. Taking the time to think about the food youâre shoveling into your mouth or how you will feel come morning can help you make smarter choices about your caloric intake and will save your waistline from total weekend destruction.
