What’s their mission, and what kind of work should interns expect to do?
Read on to find out more about this great internship opportunity with Easy Event Planning:
What It’s Like
Easy Event Planning is all remote. Interns must spend at least ten hours per week performing various tasks, duties and any other work that is given to the team for the week. They offer three teams for interns to join.
First, there is the Digital Marketing team. This team is the face of the website’s content. On this team, interns do all sorts of writing for the articles on the website. Sometimes, they perform quality assurance; other times, they add new list entries to pre-existing articles or even create an entirely new article from the ground up.
The next team is the Database Management team. For those less savvy in writing itself, this is perfect for anyone who wants to be the backbone of the website. Interns analyze any relevant and irrelevant keywords for the website’s marketplace pages. Google Sheets helps them filter hundreds of categories and keywords for these articles, all for the ultimate goal of making the website more effective with site interaction.
Finally, there is the Intern Success team. They are essentially the human resources department and perform many miscellaneous and covert tasks. From interviewing new recruits, emailing both new and old interns about their questions and any task that the CEO needs done. The Intern Success team is the glue that holds the intern teams together. All of these teams offer leadership positions as well if you truly think you are up to the task.
Cool Stuff You Get To Do
Digital Marketing interns have several articles that have their names on them. It is a good resume enhancer and shows future employers easy examples of your published work. This gives you a few different article-writing skills to show off as well. You will know about the entire article publishing as well, from writing (or quality assurance), editing, approving and the eventual publication. Finally, getting that article published is a satisfying feeling like no other.
Database interns get more technical work, and the fun there depends on whether you enjoy tackling the challenge of large databases and sheets. Intern Success members thrive off of social interaction. They contact a dozen people every day and help them with whatever they may require. Whether it’s a question from students who are applying, current interns about a task, interns requiring to be offboarded or a former intern needing a letter of recommendation, Intern Success members handle everything.
What You’ll Learn
Easy Event Planning teaches its interns many of the vital skills required for other website and content work. SEO is an important element for any website and is one of the first things interns learn about. Even if you have no idea what SEO (search engine optimization) stands for, you’ll quickly become well-antiquated with it. From properly understanding which keywords work and which don’t, how to successfully implement them into your writing, to how to judge the success of an article, you learn everything there is to know.
Digital Marketing interns also get a better sense of properly constructing an article for the website. You have to nail the tone of being proper while also being light-hearted since many of these articles are for fun topics like parties or wedding planning. These people are always stressed, and it’s up to you to comfort and guide them.
Database interns learn similar topics but have more specific and concentrated realms of research and work. As aforementioned, they have to analyze and use technical elements to understand SEO keywords. The Digital Marketing team is the face, while the Database team is all the internals to make it run properly.
The Intern Success team is a bit less involved with the work of the other teams and, as such, learns things a bit differently. They are the “people people,” so to say, and are in constant contact with just about everyone. Your social and communication skills are put to the test, as you’ll have to be checking emails, texts and Skype messages and always be there in case of an emergency task. For example, if CEO Ms. Kilmer needs assistance with a sudden task, the Intern Success team is on speed dial. These interns have a more involved work dynamic with her compared to the other teams.
“My experience with EEP has taught me so much about the best ways to function in a professional setting, as well as how to handle my first leadership experience, in which I found myself quickly learning about how to take initiative and set examples for the rest of my team,” Intern Success Team Leader Jaden Iskiev said.
This position most exemplifies character, as these interns are the middlemen messengers for many communication-related tasks. Regardless of what team you are on, you learn valuable communication and teamwork skills. Teams decide how to divvy up the work, who works on what and what’s been done. If you’re not a good communicator, now’s your chance to improve and test yourself. If not, then you’ll fall flat.
How to Prepare for Your Application
In your application, make sure to exemplify your communication and writing skills (or data skills if that’s the team you’re aiming for). These are the basic skills required to be a successful intern at Easy Event Planning and will make or break your time there. Besides having solid grades at school, having some sort of extracurricular activity, whether that’s a club, role or previous internship, pushes you to the top of other recruits applying for the internship.
If your application is well received, you’ll be put into a group interview with an Intern Success member. After that, they decide whether or not you’ll go on to the next step, which is an interview with CEO Kathleen Kilmer. After that interview, you either have the position or not.
Everyone at Easy Event Planning shows nothing but kindness and passion for the website, so try not to worry too much. Be confident in yourself and show your best side!
Cool Perks
Being an Easy Event Planning intern gives you numerous publications under your belt. Every week, interns work on at least a few articles among other tasks. Any article you work on will have your name at the bottom, which also links to your LinkedIn page and other articles you wrote for the website. All of these articles can be linked in your professional portfolio and/or resume, and you’ll continuously add to it with more articles. It gives the website a sense of community with the various names on each article.
“Everything feels smoother when you are part of a team that will be there for you in moments of confusion or absence, and that, in my experience, is what makes this internship so rewarding. This is especially true given the amazing responsiveness and direct help we receive from our CEO,” Iskiev said.
As an event and wedding planning website, you’ll be a great help for anyone in need of help in your personal life. If your sister or friend is planning a wedding or party, then you can help them out with the various meticulous details of that event. Do they need help finding decorations or lighting? You got their back. Whether it’s becoming a writer, event planner, database manager or a marketing expert, Easy Event Planning helps you reach that career goal.
