Fall is an exciting time of the year for the Greek community. Scoping out the freshmen as potential new members becomes second nature, and fraternity rush events are becoming better and, well, frattier! Check out how these fraternities create a rush experience like no other.
University of Arizona
At Alpha Epsilon Pi, potential brothers are invited to local venues to participate in all things fratty. “We host a poker night at our house, we go to a pool hall and we also rent out a hookah bar,” said sophomore Austin Frieder, who is getting ready to participate in his first fraternity rush from the other side.
University of North Carolina
Sigma Phi Epsilon has completely different events depending on what school you attend. At UNC, for example, the first rush event is a hall crawl, held at the house. “Every room in the house has a different shot or drink,” said junior Max Charnas. The events get better and more selective as the nights go on, including a dinner at Hooters and a casino night. The potential brothers arrive to these events in style: being picked up in a stretch limo!
George Washington University
The SigEp brothers at GW, however, utilize their rush to teach potential brothers about the values of their brotherhood. “SigEp was founded on Masonic values,” explained junior Doorie Lee. “We take the guys to different Masonic venues, such as the temple in Alexandria or the George Washington Masonic Memorial,” so they can learn more about SigEp and its principals.
University of Wisconsin
The brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at the University of Wisconsin use fraternity rush as an opportunity to show off what their chapter is all about. “Rush is really a façade for all of our other events,” said junior Ted Fisher. “We have a big barbeque at the house and last year everyone ended up jumping in the lake,” which is conveniently located in their backyard. The brothers really want to impress the new members by showing off all the awesome party opportunities in their beautiful house.
