Many people use music as an escape. There are tons of music artists for people to explore, and the industry has a lot of diversity. Some of the biggest people in the game right now are women like Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish. One amazing female artist who just released an album is Kali Uchis.
Let’s take a look at her newest album, Red Moon In Venus, and some of my personal favorites on this album.
“I Wish You Roses” – 10/10
A song that was released months before the album in January of 2023, “I Wish You Roses” serves as the first song on the album after the short intro. In the song, Uchis talks about wishing her ex well after a breakup. The dynamic vocals from Uchis mixed with the beautiful melody make for a great opening song for the album. The chorus is very catchy and will definitely have fans singing along. This is one of the best songs on the album and creates a very strong start to the rest of the listening experience.
“All Mine” – 9/10
The fifth track on the album, this song has a slower, groovier feel. Uchis’ vocals shine through yet again on this track. She sings about how her partner would never leave her for another girl because it wouldn’t be worth it and she wouldn’t be as good as Uchis. The pre-chorus is a highlight on this song, serving as a fantastic lead-up to an amazing chorus. Overall, this song is definitely one of the strongest on the album.
“Fantasy” – 9/10
“Fantasy” is the sixth track on the album, following directly after “All Mine.” It is a faster pace from the other songs on the album and features Don Toliver. It combines a dancehall type of beat with Uchis and Toliver’s vocals. Uchis herself rocks this song, but Toliver brings it to the next level with his feature. He fits perfectly on the track, and their combination makes this a standout on this project.
“Endlessly” – 10/10
The ninth song, this track begins to bring up the rear of the album. This song has an electric feel to it. The vocals are entrancing, and the song has some of the best vibes on the album. What really makes this song special is the catchy chorus. It is simple but very easy to sing along to. Overall, this is a very feel-good song that stands out as one of the highlights of this album.
“Moral Conscience” – 9/10
The next song up, “Moral Conscience,” showcases Uchis’ amazing vocal ability. The note she hits at the end of her first verse is extremely powerful, with the perfect blend of emotion and control behind it. She goes from high to low so beautifully on this track. The instrumental itself for this song is beautiful, and you can’t go wrong with adding a voice as enchanting as Uchis’ on it.
“Moonlight” – 9/10
Another song released as a single before the album, this is the second to last song on the project. It is another groovy vibe with great vocals from Uchis. She showcases her Spanish speaking ability in the chorus, adding another fantastic element to this already beautiful song. From the vocals to the bouncy bass playing on the beat, this is a great song to finish off the album.
Overall, I gave Uchis’ album an 8.2/10. Although this review only covers some of my personal favorites on the album, there were plenty of amazing songs throughout. Some of the songs were shorter and had less depth, bringing the rating down a bit. However, it does not undermine the amazing highlights of this stellar album.
