October is here and we, as college students, like to savor the last few warm weekends of summer. No one likes waiting in line at a bar in the freezing cold, and I certainly don’t want to be putting a skirt on in December. Before these dreadful months approach us (minus the lucky souls who go to school on the West Coast or in the south), find a way to enjoy yourselves outside with one of these fun, unique and fall-related suggestions.
Go on a hayride
Bring a friend or go in a group. Tour an apple orchard, drink cider and roast marshmallows. “Hayrides are especially great for those of us who go to city schools… it’s a great way to get out of the city for a night,” said George Washington University junior Jillian Leviton, who is planning her sorority’s yearly hayride outing. For a more Halloween-related adventure, try finding a haunted hayride near your major city.
Start a football game
Fall and football go hand in hand. Just because you’re not on your school’s football team doesn’t mean you can’t try your hand (pun intended) at America’s favorite seasonal sport. Get your friends together and spend a brisk Saturday playing two-hand touch on the quad. Don’t forget the beer and brats!
Go to an amusement park
You’re never too old to scream like a girl on the top of your favorite roller coaster! Catch the rides before they’re shut down for the winter and look for group deals and Halloween specials– you can’t forget about Fright Fest! “My friends and I go to Cedar Point once in the summer and once in the fall. Going to an amusement park is such a great stress reliever before midterms begin,” said Miami University junior Chelsea Dzura.
Dine Al Fresco
You have about a month left of nice weather. Take advantage at all opportunities, including when you eat! Restaurant patios are always full of business people and socialites alike, and you should not have to be stuck inside on a beautiful fall day. Think it’s too chilly to enjoy a meal outside? You may be pleasantly surprised to learn that your restaurant (like many) has heat lamps! Problem solved.
