The spring season is all about changing your routine. We trade our leather boots and sweaters for floral-print dresses and cut-offs. Instead of staying inside to watch movies and sulk, we’re pool hopping and relaxing in the great outdoors. And even more importantly, our beauty regimen takes a drastic turn.
Simplifying your hair and makeup routine is essential during the warmer months. Not only do most girls opt to air-dry their hair during the spring and summer (rather than blow-drying and/or straightening it), but we also tend to wear less makeup. Not only is it easier to go bare faced when you’re rocking a healthy tan, but higher humidity means heavy foundation, powder and eyeliner will melt the moment you step outside. You need to choose a few products that will subtly define your eyes, lips and cheeks without being heavy or messy.
This spring’s all-around emphasis on color has made its way into the world of beauty, and wearing a particularly bright lip color is fresh, flattering and on-trend. While bold oranges and sultry reds are popular this season, I’ve found the easiest and most versatile color is pink. Not only do bright pink lips look fantastic with some of spring’s best trends (like pastels, Lucite accessories and rich neutrals), but they instantly brighten your face and nearly eliminate the need for more makeup. From neon raspberry to bubblegum pink, the color is all at once trendy and feminine. It’s playful, yet practical.
A touch of bronzer across your forehead, down the bridge of your nose and in the hollows of your cheekbones will warm up your complexion and balance the strong lip color. Try a bronzer that’s only a few shades deeper than your skin tone; anything darker will be too dramatic against your pink lips. Blend it seamlessly into your skin with a blending sponge (nothing’s worse than that horrible line of demarcation) and add a touch of lengthening black mascara to define your eyes. With just three products, you’ve achieved a pretty and flattering look that still feels completely of-the-moment.
