Sophomore year. ¼ of the way through college. Deuces to being a freshie and experiencing EVERYTHING for the first time. No more harsh looks just respect, maybe? Though, I do have some goals for this upcoming year because I could not possibly have experienced every little thing college has yet to offer. I know there are more experiences and things to do outside of my comfort zone.
Let’s dive into what I hope to achieve my sophomore year as a Terp.
Well, I would just LOVE it if I could maintain focus and motivation towards earning superb grades.
I will smile ear-to-ear if I achieve making it on the Dean’s List, which requires a 3.5 grade point average or higher. I am putting more effort into my schoolwork in college, but not being struck with reward at the end of the semester. This year I am going to put ALL of my effort into listening and performing excellent note taking skills, studying non-stop in the library and getting the best grades I can get. Now, this does NOT mean I plan on living in the library 24/7 because that screams unrealistic . But, school work comes superior over hanging out with my friends, going out, checking off the iconic University of Maryland bucket list, working and playing softball (#adultingsucks).
Working, ugh.
The school gym came in clutch and I have the opportunity to work at one of the on-campus gyms during the school year. This year, I hope to work as much as possible without becoming overwhelmed and having it impact my studying or social plans. I am SO excited to work with other UMD students (mostly people I have never met before). My cousin actually met his current girlfriend because she would swipe him into the gym, so if I do not find the LOVE OF MY LIFE then I am blaming Jimmy (kidding, of course, not really).
Hopping into my passion of the best sport, in my opinion, softball.
Saying I’m excited would be an understatement about the upcoming fall and spring seasons. Alongside my roommate and a few close friends I met last year, I plan on playing for the school’s club softball team again. These next three years will be the last years of me playing competitive, girls fast pitch softball (brings a tear to my eye), and I want to make the most of it. Working hard to improve my skills and producing for my team prioritizes on my top two goals these upcoming seasons. Softball allows the best outlet where I have made some of the best memories in my life and I want to continue playing the sport I love with people that share the same love for the game.
Living in an apartment with five of my close friends will be the MOST dramatic, yet fun experience.
I hope to grow even closer to my roommates and do “adult” type things together like grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and hosting get together (aka RAGERS, just kidding). And of course, we will go on D.C. trips together and the classic going out to parties. I hope to continue my trend of getting in a dance battle with a random stranger, and having my friends surrounding and cheering me on. After the night out, we will definitely take more trips to McKeldin Mall and take a swim in the cold McKeldin fountain. Might even try checking off some of the bucket list items for Terps. For example, stopping by Pizza Kingdom and demolishing a giant slice of pizza by myself. Also, sneaking into the football stadium and climbing on top of Cole Fieldhouse. Hey, #yolo.
Back to school. I can NOT wait. Watch out because I am (slightly) prepared to tackle the obstacles of sophomore year. Oh and of course, GO TERPS.
