Hidden Central Gem
What it Feels Like to Go Here
Roll dawgs! The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, a public 4-year university located in central Wisconsin, prides itself on the community vibe. Because of the smaller student body, people from all walks of life can feel connected. Calling themselves “one big (but not too big) happy family,” UW-Stevens Point offers a more tightly knit and personal college experience. Get all of the fun and excitement of going to a large public university without all of the outrageous tuition or competition. With over 200 student organizations to be involved with, each and every Pointer will find a place where they belong.
Awesome Alumni
UW-Stevens Point also has some noteworthy alumni. Arthur Pejsa, who earned a B.S. in mathematics in 1947, helped design control systems for all three Apollo space vehicles when he worked at NASA in the 1960s. Gerald Avery, who earned a B.A. in dance in 2008, danced on Broadway in big productions like “Hamilton” and was on “Orange is the New Black”. Peggy Rajski, who earned a communications degree in 1975, went on to win an Academy Award and founded the Trevor Project, a 24/7 crisis and suicide prevention line for LGBTQ youth. And last but not least, we have Terry Porter, who earned a communications degree in 1985. Terry was drafted into the NBA and played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, and the San Antonio Spurs.
Where We Hang
Students at UW-Stevens Point can find fun places to hang out in the downtown area, which locals call “the square.” There, you can find all sorts of restaurants and bars, like Elbow Room, Brickhause Tavern, and Graffiti’s Sports Pub. Looking for free live music? Students can attend Notes@Night, a fun community-based gathering complete with a farmers market, booths from local businesses, and live music. Some annual events include the world’s largest trivia contest, hosted each April by UW-Stevens Point. 500 teams compete each year over the 54-hour-long contest! And, because the university was the first in Wisconsin to have 100 percent of its electricity come from renewable sources, there’s an annual Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living fair.

Student Review
“Since I’m in the math Ed program, the professors have been wonderful at helping. There are also a lot of events going on that I like to attend. The only downside that I’ve experienced so far was some students have been writing bad things about UWSP with chalk around campus the day before we have big event days (like ASD and freshman Orientation). As a campus ambassador, it becomes our responsibility to write over it and nothing has been done about it yet,” University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point junior Maddy Kiel said.
Getting In
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point ranks among the top 10 in the University of Wisconsin system. The UWSP application process focuses on your involvement with extracurriculars, letters of recommendation, and willingness to learn and grow! An ACT score of 19-25 is average for acceptance, but students who have had higher and lower scores have gotten in. Class rank and GPA are important factors as well. With an 89% acceptance rate, most applicants can breathe a bit more easily if UWSP tops their list.
